Labour Council’s Tax Con – LABOUR CITY COUNCIL PUTS BILLS UP BY 4%

The Conservative led Coalition Government have found savings at the national level to enable them to give an additional grant to the City Council so that it can avoid a Council Tax increase this year. But Labour’s plans for the City are for a 4% increase for 2013.

We say that the City should be using 2012-3 as an opportunity to cut costs such that it does not need to ask for any increase in 2013.

Are you guaranteed a 4% pay rise in 2013? If not, why should the Council be guaranteed an increase? Could their plans be connected with the lack of City Council elections in 2013?

Improving recycling – helping the environment

Today we’re publishing the results of our survey on recycling questions:

  • Almost all of you (92%) thought that we should aim to recycle the 70% of our household waste that our neighbouring Conservative-run Councils do.
  • 90% of respondents asked for the return of free garden waste collections. Clearly a service that you value and should be prioritised by the Council.
  • 50% of respondents thought that simply explaining the scheme better would help.
  • 80% of respondents were in favour of ‘street bins’ in terraced housing areas –with the caveat that the areas would need regular visits to ensure they remained clean. This requires further investigation. Conservative Councillors would press for this.
  • Thank you also for over 50 detailed suggestions.
