Abingdon Conservatives support the campaign to open Abbey Meadows Pool, for more than six weeks in any given year.
Abbey Meadows is a visible asset to our town, offering residents and visitors wonderful open spaces, a children's play area and a very popular open-air swimming pool. Yet, current Liberal Democrat councillors - including 10 Abingdon residents - don’t seem to care.
Why, after four years as the current administration, is the District Council only opening the pool for six weeks a year? They say that it is the cost of heating the pool, but Abingdon residents have told us that they would be happy to use it unheated. Maybe it is the same reason why they opposed significant investment back in 2018, because they don't value the importance of this area, and would rather take the easier option of filling the pool with concrete!
Abingdon's riverfront, and the facilities near it, including Abbey Meadows' outdoor swimming pool, are understandably a source of pride for many of us. So, our local team of Conservative candidates support the opening of the swimming pool, to serve the local community and its visitors for as long as possible during the summer period every year.
There are many other opportunities to make our riverfront attractive too, so why can’t our current District Councillors see it? We will encourage local businesses to open on the riverfront, regenerate the Upper Reaches Hotel and reinstate two hours of free parking in every council-owned car park in Abingdon.
If elected on 4th May, we will support the wishes of the town and Vale residents by opening the swimming pool for longer and restoring Abbey Meadow back to a vibrant and fun place to visit. Your local Conservatives continue to put Abingdon and the people who live and visit here at the heart of every decision we make.
